Great news everyone!! The Computer Equipment For Kids Program has been incorporated and is one step closer to becoming a Nonprofit organization! Thank you all for the support!!!
Josie and I have created some quick videos to help folks with logging in and out of the CloudReady Operating System. Well. 2020 hasn't exactly started the way any of us would have hoped. With the corona virus outbreak and basically cancelling everyone's plans for the next few months. The shift of work and school to a 'remote' setting has many of us trying to figure out how to keep doing our jobs, learning, and living our lives as before. It is a different time and can be very frustrating but we will get through this and we will be stronger from the whole experience.
If you have any kids or know anyone in need of a computer/device for remote learning PLEASE reach out to me. Email me at: [email protected] This is the main reason i started this program was to make sure that students had the technology to connect and learn remotely. If you are on Facebook and looking for more ideas for remote learning check us out: https://www.facebook.com/CEFKorg Stay safe and as always keep learning. Bartlett 20 to GO!!!! We are now 20 devices away from 300 devices given away!! If you have any devices you would like to donate please send us an email at [email protected] or click the donate button on this page. Back to School, back to school, ... It's back to school time!! If you buy any new devices to replace your old/used devices please donate your old device to the Computer Equipment for Kids Program and good luck to all the students and families out there in the new school year! Our Neighbors Child 2019! We are providing laptops to the Our Neighbors Child Program again this year to run their inventory software and volunteer registry/login. If you have any laptops you would like to donate please let us know! Came home from work to find this box of awesomeness sitting on my door step! 10 Kindle Fires ready to help students explore and use the Internet to better their education. Huge THANK YOU to Mike Skog and the Huebner Family McDonald's for the donation to the Computer Equipment For Kids Program! HI All! One of our awesome sponsors donated a 3D Printer to the Computer Equipment For Kids Program!!!! If you know of any programs that would be interested in having a 3D printer in their lab please send them our way. This printer will take a little time to put together as you can see from the pictures below but it should be a good learning experience for anyone involved! Please shoot me an email if you are interested: [email protected] Hello all! I built out number 270 tonight! We are 30 from 300. This year has been great so far and the idea of hitting 300 before the end of it makes it that much better. Thank you all for the support! if you know anyone in need of a laptop please send them my way: [email protected] If you would like to donate a laptop or tablet please give me a shout! As always, keep learning. Bartlett Amazing week for the Computer Equipment for kids program. The program received a bunch of laptop donations (8 total for the week!), donations from our Amazon Wishlist (thanks again CHAD!), and we are sending out a few laptops to students at Westfield High school thanks to Jessica Finley!! As if that weren't enough we are also shipping out 5 laptops to DEVELOP AFRICA! Donate Africa is non-profit organization founded with the aim of facilitating meaningful and sustainable development in Africa. Our focus is on impacting and changing lives, nations and, destinies. We provide school supplies, scholarships, solar lights (so kids can study at night), mosquito nets (to keep children safe from malaria), computer/vocational training etc. We additionally provide microfinance loans, orphan care, and disaster relief. This helps them become self-sufficient and rise above the poverty line. When individuals and families are strengthened, they can contribute towards community, national and international progress. If you would like to learn more or DONATE definitely check out the website. When i started this program 6 years ago i never imagined that we would have been sending laptops to another continent :) But here we are all thanks to the donations and AWESOME support from YOU! Thank you all and if you need anyone in need of a laptop/device for school PLEASE send them my way: [email protected] I have about 5 laptops ready to change a students life. Never stop learning Bartlett Over the years i have received many laptop/device donations. This blog is a glimpse into what goes into turning around a donation and getting it into the hands of a student in need.
Donations come from everywhere. I've used people and this site to get the word out on the Computer Equipment for Kids program. Everything from flyers posted in local schools, shops, and restaurants (you can print a flier here) to friend of a friend relationships that have blossomed into great partnerships (like the Our Neighbors Child program we help every Christmas Time). If it works (or needs minor repairs) I'll take it! The only rule i have is it must be WIFI enabled. If you have anything you would like to donate please shoot me a message: [email protected] Once i receive the donations they make it into the IN BOX where i evaluate the device and get it into the inventory list(a spreadsheet i keep in GDRIVE). I just started actually documenting the inventory a few months ago and now wish I did this years ago. Once inventoried I can now work on the device. IN PROGRESS - I boot them up, nuke the hard drive, and install an Operating System. My go to in the past was Ubuntu (a Linux distribution) which gave students the opportunity to do anything they needed for school AND coding. I have moved away from it recently in favor of Cloud Ready ( Cloud Ready was created by Neverware). I find that Cloud Ready provides me with an easy install and gives students all google apps needed to do school work/studying. Cloud Ready is very similar to a Chrome Book, you login with your GOOGLE account and you have access to anything related to your account (gmail, gdrive, classroom, etc). if you have old hardware around your house download the ISO and give it a try. If you have questions or need help shoot me an email. If during install or checking the hardware I determine there is something wrong with the device I troubleshoot and put needed parts on the Amazon CEFK wish list available here. If install is successful and no hardware issues are found the device makes it's way into the DONE pile :) and we wait for requests to come in from the community/students for devices. If you know of anyone in need please send them my way: [email protected] If the device is awaiting a new piece of hardware it goes into the WAITING ON PART pile. Once someone buys something off the Wish List it is delivered directly to me and I can go about installing the part in the device. I try and document the fixes either with photos, blogs, and soon live feeds. So if you are interested in how to fix computers stay tuned. I have been toying with the idea of taking a bunch of computers in need of repair to the local library or Starbucks and having a 'Fix it' night where anyone who wants to help can show up and help or learn. (If you are interested let me know) That's pretty much it. If you have any laptops/tablets you would like to donate to the program please let me know. If YOU know of anyone in need of a laptop PLEASE send them my way: [email protected] Thank you all for the support and KEEP LEARNING. |
